Trump Admin Proposes Cuts to Land & Water Conservation Fund

Today the Trump Administration proposed to eliminate nearly all funding for the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) in its Fiscal Year 2021 budget. LWCF is not funded by taxpayer dollars but by a portion of offshore oil and natural gas royalties.

What is the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF)?

The Land and Water Conservation Fund is a conservation program responsible for protecting parks, wildlife refuges and recreation areas at the federal, state and local levels. For 50 years, it has provided funding for land and water conservation projects, recreational construction and activities and the continued historic preservation of our nation’s landmarks from coast-to-coast. LWCF does not use any taxpayer dollars – it is funded using a small portion of revenues from offshore oil and gas royalty payments. Historically the LWCF has received bipartisan support from a majority of legislators.
